Senator Coonan Protecting Media Oligarchs While Preventing Public Interest Benefits
When Richard Alston was Howard’s Communications Minister the free to air TV (FTA-TV) oligarchs were given free spectrum for digital TV. This spectrum was and is worth billions of dollars and is a public asset. (It added a few billion more to Packers empire and although Packer always said there was only one Alan Bond, the fact is there is more than one as the government handed him billions, Bond less than a billion.) After almost 10 years the FTA-TV mafia has successfully prevented Australian’s getting Digital TV. That is, it denied competition and ensured the media oligarchs and the government maintain the status quo. That is, a propaganda machine where the government manipulates the majority and the media oligarchs profiteer with their license to print money, which they then donate to the political status quo to keep them in power where they can continue to protect the media oligarchs. You should get the gist of it by now!
Now Coonan has again handed over public spectrum worth a billion or more to the same radio media oligarchs with the ludicrous and now easily disproven assertion that it will encourage investment in digital radio. (Exactly the same thing Howard and Alston said when the gave FTA-TV oligarchs, including Packer, free digital spectrum. And we will be posting some analysis shortly.) And what are Australians doing about it? Again nothing!Once again the public is ignoring the give-away of their valuable assets to be used to prevent the public getting digital radio. Like FTA-TV the same oligarchs will prevent digital innovation and not use the digital spectrum because it threatens their old analog assets. Alston was rewarded by being made ambassador in London. What will Coonan’s pay-off be to keep the Howard coalition's media mates onside for a propaganda machine and political power?
Dangerously Howard now clearly believes his own hubris and humbug but when surrounded by so many sycophants it happens as we found out in with the extended tenure of the labor party mafia as carpet bagger Keating made off with his payolla, including millions handed to him via Lake Technologies etc.
The universally proven way to maximize and optimize any development including technology is thru competition. Something this government claims to represent. But what would a bunch of Australian lawyers/politicians know about competition?

With Australia’s A$600 billion foreign debt among many other relevancies, the answer is obvious. Wakeup Ozzies or kiss more of your digital assets goodbye! And continue to watch reruns and recycled cheap content while less than a handful of media oligarchs and their heirs clip coupons in tax free havens at your expense.
